Born in a salon that was never just about hair.

Where It Began
At the heart of it all was our mum, Rooney.
Her salon became a safe space for the women in our community — the "aunties" we grew up with — who gathered there to share stories, laughter and life. They left not just looking different, but feeling different. Lighter. Stronger. Cared for.
Because in that space, hair care was never just about appearance. It was about wellbeing, belonging and ritual.

From childhood, we watched Mum work with intention and intuition. She blended locally sourced ingredients — shea butter, natural oils — into remedies that simply worked.
Nature's ingredients became more than products. They became the language through which we learnt to care for ourselves — and for others.
A Legacy of Care and Empowerment
That salon didn't just serve clients. It built futures.
Hairstylists and beauticians trained there, developed their skills, and went on to open businesses of their own in other communities. Rooney believed that true care extends beyond the individual — it's about lifting others up and creating opportunity. That belief is woven into NEDE today.

Carrying the Legacy Forward
The answer had been with us all along.
Our founder, Emelia, carried this legacy into her own journey. After further training, she spent years working as a professional stylist in London, caring for clients across all hair types — European, Afro-Caribbean, and everything in between.
But no matter the hair type, the challenges were always familiar:
She realised something powerful — the same natural oils Mum had always used weren't limited to one hair type. They had the potential to support all hair and scalp needs.
From Tradition to Formulation.
Through years of research, testing, and over two decades of hands-on experience, Emelia refined those traditional blends into formulations that could restore moisture, nourish deeply, protect hair and scalp, and work across different hair textures. And when clients began to share their results — not just healthier hair, but healthier scalps — something clicked. We had grown up using these same ingredients on our skin. We already knew their power. So NEDE expanded — developing body butters using avocado oil, infused with essential oils like frankincense to soften, restore and protect.
Because care shouldn't stop at your hair. It's a full-body experience.
